Country Store and Gardens

The Country Store and Gardens display mature plantings on a 10 acre site on Vashon Island, as well as the operation of the two oldest nurseries on the island.  Our nursery features rare and unusuals, and a wide variety of perennials, vines, trees and shrubs.  Colvos Creek Nursery specializes in drought tolerant and native plants.

We are experimenting with an old-fashioned method.  Not all of the plants are in pots.  Some are in raised beds and are dug and potted at time of purchase.  We also offer u-dig of mature trees and shrubs, so please pick up the information or request it through our email.

Our garden supplies include seeds, decor, gardening accessories, tools, books and more. We have a large selection of organic boxed and bagged goods. We carry rubber footwear for your gardening needs, as well as rain gear, hats for all seasons and overalls. A great place to find that perfect gift for the gardener on your list, or to treat yourself.
In season we offer u-pick organic blueberries, Asian pears, apples, pears, plums and filberts.

Fairie Gardens
Fairie Gardens

When Dave Baird and Steve Taylor started Fairie Gardens in Tumwater, Washington in 1985, they did not know then that their modest start would grow into a miraculous landscape of beauty and wonder.

Each year the gardens are more distinctive and colorful due to the maturing of the dwarf conifers planted through out. The bark of dogwoods, the peeling bark of climbing hydrangeas, ninebark and willows all offer much interest. The Primroses have persisted in bloom since late November. But now, the hellebore rule in whites, pinks, reds and purple. View the garden tours

The pond garden has been a refuge during these troubling times. The winter of 2004/2005 was the time to upgrade our water feature. We have the system we install for clients now working here. We also took advantage of the disruption to rearrange parts of that garden to better reflect our current vision. We are adding more evergreen interest and star performers.

The New Alpine Garden created in March of 2004 already looks like it has been there forever. Look for the garden tour.
